Pressure to Spend

Not only do advertisers pressure us to spend money, sometimes our friends do, too. It might feel uncomfortable at first to say “no” when others are buying things you want or going places you want to go. Again, stop and take stock in your goals. If a college or technical education is one of them, stay focused. If pursuing more education or learning new skills are not your friends' goals, your friendships may change a little bit. If you stay focused and accomplish your goals, while resisting pressure from friends to spend money on other things, you will gain your friends' respect, even if they don’t show it at first.

Stay the course, resist pressure to spend, and believe in your goals. It may be difficult at times, but along the way, you’ll meet new people who share your goals and gain the respect of friends you now have.
