So, How Much Does It Really Cost?

Let’s first take a look at the published cost of tuition—costs colleges list in school literature or post on Web sites. In reality, you may end up paying a lot less because there are so many ways you can cut college costs. For now, here are some published annual tuition costs.

Did You Know That...

About 65 percent of students attend college with annual tuition and fees below $9,000.

About 40 percent of all college students attend four-year schools with annual tuition and fees for in-state schools between $3,000 and $6,000.

About 62 percent of full-time college students receive grant aid, averaging about $2,200 per student at two-year public colleges, more than $3,100 at public four-year colleges, and about $9,000 per student at private four-year colleges.
