How Do I Choose?
With so many careers and educational requirements, it can be confusing
to find a career you might be interested in.
| Here are a few things you can start thinking
about: |
| • |
What kind of financial support will you have, and
how much financial support will you need? (You’ll
learn about financial aid in the Ways to
Finance Your College Education section). |
| • |
Do you want to go to school close to home, or do
you want to move away to another city or state? |
| • |
What colleges or universities offer the best courses
for the career you think you want to pursue? Your school
counselor can help you figure this out. |
| • |
Do you want to go to a big or small school? A school
counselor can tell you the pros and cons of each. |
| • |
What extra-curricular activities are important to
you (examples: playing intramural sports,
working for the school newspaper, serving the community)?
Some schools offer a wider variety of activities than
others. Your school counselor can help you out here,
too. |
This is a lot to think about. If you start exploring
your options now, you will have enough time to get all
the information you need to make smart decisions about
your education and career after high school.
Deciding on a career that will help you can create opportunities for
your future is a big project, but definitely worth the extra work.
